What does Good News Fellowship Believe?
We of Good News Church have assembled ourselves (Heb. 10:25) to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). Therefore, for your information, we have set forth the following biblical truths that we believe:
1. We believe in God the Father Almighty, who created the heaven and the earth; and in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, dead and buried; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. (Gen. 1:1; John 3:16; Luke 23-24; Acts 1:11; Acts 2:32-36; Acts 1:4-8; Acts 2:1-4; Heb. 10:25; 2 Tim. 4:1).
2. We believe the Bible to be God’s inspired and infallible revelation to mankind (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
3. We believe in personal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Eph. 2:8-9); that we are born sinful (Rom. 3:23); that we must be born again (John 3:3-8); and forgiven of our sins through the blood of Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14).
4. We believe in baptism by immersion in water as an act of obedience after salvation (Matt. 3:13-15; Acts 2:38); and in the taking of Holy Communion in remembrance of the death of our Lord (1 Cor. 11:23-26; Matt. 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19-20).
5. We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit as a separate experience after salvation with the evidence of speaking in tongues (Acts 2:1-4; Acts 8:12-17; Acts 10:44-46; Acts 19:1-6).
6. We believe that the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22), the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:1-11), and the ministry gifts of the Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:11) are manifested in the church as well as in the lives of its individual members.
7. We believe that not only did God through Jesus Christ provide forgiveness of sins (2 Cor. 5:21; Eph. 1:7), but that He provided healing and health for the physical body (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matt. 8:17; 1 Pet. 2:24). Therefore, we pray for the sick by anointing with oil in the name of the Lord (James 5:14-16), and laying hands on the sick (Mark 16:18).
8. We believe that man is spirit, soul and body (1 Thess. 5:23), and that God in Jesus Christ provided for the whole man; that we have been redeemed from the curse of the law (Gal. 3:3-13); and that Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). Therefore, we believe that by exercising faith in God and His Word, we can and should live in the blessing of Abraham (Gal. 3:14), and enjoy God’s provisions (2 Pet. 1:1-4).
9. We believe in the literal bodily return of Jesus Christ as set forth in the Scriptures to establish His kingdom on the earth (Acts 1:11; Matt. 24:29-30).
10. We believe in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18), and that in order to fulfill it, we should be empowered by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).
“Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in my word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” “ John 8:31-32
Where is Your Faith Notes 11-14-10
In Mark 4:35-41 Jesus and His disciples are in a boat after He had been teaching them what the Kingdom of God was like through parables (i.e. vv. 30-32, from its limited significance then to worldwide domination at Christ’s return). On the lake, with Jesus asleep in the stern, a great windstorm comes up and begins filling the boat. The disciples panic due to fear for their lives instead of discerning Who is in the boat with them. They’ve failed to process their destiny with this One who controls the elements, who healed the man with the withered hand (3:5), brought in the great catch of fish (Luke 5:1-11). Jesus didn’t just want His disciples to not be afraid; He also wanted them to initiate action, & take authority over the storm as He did (4:39); He would teach them how in Mark 11. He asks them in v. 40, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. (Rom. 10:17 SFLB note: “It is the word of God that the Holy Spirit uses to awaken a response of faith within us, and it is the reliability of the Word of God on which we rest our faith for salvation.”). The disciples had the living Word with them; surely they would have faith!
In Luke 8:25 Jesus asks, “Where is your faith?” Faith was not present according to their fearful behavior. They thought the Lord didn’t care (Mark 4:38). Are we like that today?
In Matt. 8:13, Jesus says, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?”
“Little faith” is Gk. word ‘oligopistos’ and it means “a faith that lacks confidence or trusts too little. It was a word used as a tender rebuke or correction. It is not as strong a word as outright unbelief or distrust, but it is another way of saying “your faith is underdeveloped”. The Lord doesn’t say that we won’t have storms in life, but He does say that He’ll always be in our boat (Mt. 28:20).
Mark 4:41 “Who can this be? “Obey” = servants attentive to requests made of them and comply. The wind and waves were like Jesus’ servants!
Who THIS Is
Isa. 9:6-7 Sometimes an event occurs such as Sept. 11th or a person excels in an activity that dominate the headlines for years, even decades to come. Well, here we have an individual that has dominated the headlines, not for decades or even centuries, but millennia. His identity is said to be that of a Child, but He’s also a given Son. He would have a two-fold nature
Page 2, “Where Is Your Faith?”, Nov. 14, 2010
of both Man and God, making Him qualified to be the legitimate Messiah or Savior of the world. The government, or “entitlement to rule” would rest
upon His shoulders (v.7 tells us that “of the increase of His government and
peace there will be no end”; this verse suggests Dan. 2:44).
This Child’s name and attributes include Wonderful, Counselor (Isa. 28:29), expressing his leadership and ability politically; as such, He is the infallible Source of guidance to all of creation.
He is also Mighty God, or ‘God incarnate’, which is another way of saying ‘the Word made flesh’. The SFLB tells us that this word ‘Mighty’ “..has the additional meaning of “hero”. The Lord is the infinite Hero of His people, the Divine Warrior who has triumphed over sin and death.” “Hero worship” is very big today, especially in movies, television, video games, sports, music, business, etc. There is no hero like our Hero, King Jesus!
Everlasting Father is a title that does not conflict with that of the First Person of the Trinity, but speaks of our Lord Jesus Christ’s fatherly care of those in covenant with Him. He is everywhere present, ruling both upon David’s throne and in the hearts of the redeemed of His kingdom.
As Prince of Peace He instills His character into those redeemed from sin, and the evidence of this is peace – the settledness of His own rule in our souls. This peace is two-fold: 1) Jesus death and resurrection on our behalf result in our being reconciled to God, and therefore having peace with God. 2) Secondly, “peace” is a gift from Jesus, which His disciples obtained in John 14:27 by surrendering to Christ’s will and submitting to His Word in faith. This most important “peace of God” would then provide us with a referee to rule in our hearts (Col. 3:15), overriding doubts, fears, and everything that our Adversary, the devil, would throw at us with lies, deceptions and accusations to defeat or hinder us.
Our Words Reveal Our Faith or Lack Thereof
Prov. 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Jesus teaches one application of this truth to His disciples and us in Mark 11:12-14 & 20-24. The word “removed” in v. 23 literally means, “to be set aside”; it indicates a change of location from one place to another, a transfer, a relocation. Have a problem that needs to be set aside today? Let’s repent of our underdeveloped faith & examine our hearts before communion; remember, “Jesus has borne your judgment!”
